Translate Sessions

A history list of every translation session you have created.

Every time you translate something, the app files the line into a session. This screen lists those sessions, newest work at the bottom of the list, each labeled with the date and time it began. Use it to find a conversation you had earlier in the shift and reopen it line by line, including the audio from anything that was spoken.

note

Row labels use your saved date format. If you have not set a custom format, the row shows the session's stored date and time as recorded, in month-day-year order with a 12-hour clock.

Getting Here

  1. Open the app to Home.
  2. Tap Translate.
  3. Tap the three-dot button, then tap Logs.
  4. The Translate Sessions list opens.

There is no other route in: sessions are always reached through the Logs option on the Translate screen.

Reading the List

  1. Each row is one session, labeled by when it started.
  2. Rows appear in the order the sessions were created, so a shift's worth of work reads top to bottom.
  3. There is nothing else on the row — no line count and no preview — so the date and time are how you identify a session.
tip

Because rows are identified only by date and time, note the time when something important is said. Glancing at your watch after a difficult exchange makes the right session easy to find later.

Opening a Session

  1. Look down the list for the session you want by its date and time.
  2. Tap the row.
  3. The Session Detail screen opens, titled with that same date and time, showing every line saved in the session.

Going Back

  1. Tap the Back button to return to the Translate screen.
  2. Your language choices, speeds, and text on the Translate screen are unchanged — opening the log does not reset anything.
  3. If you arrived from the Mobile Data Com area, the Return to Mobile Data Com button takes you straight back there.

Empty and Unexpected States

StateWhat you seeWhat to do
No sessions yetAn empty listRun a translation on the Translate screen; the first finished translation creates a session
Fewer sessions than expectedOnly sessions saved on this device are listedCheck the device you were using at the time
A session opens with no linesThe session was created but no line was storedReturn to the list and open a different session
Rows look like raw datesNo custom date format is setSet one in App Defaults if you prefer a different order

What Counts as a Session

A session is a container the app opens for you, not something you name or start by hand.

QuestionAnswer
When does a new session start? The first time a translation finishes after you open the Translate screen
What goes into it?Every line translated after that, in order
Does changing language start a new one?No — a session can hold lines in several language pairs
Does a voice line differ from a typed line?Only in that it also carries its audio recording
Can two sessions exist for one conversation?Yes, if you left Translate and came back; check both by their times
Can a session be renamed or merged? No

Using Sessions Through a Shift

  1. Translate in one sitting where you can. Staying on the Translate screen keeps a single exchange in one session, which is far easier to read back.
  2. Note the time after anything important. The date and time are the only label a row carries.
  3. Check the session soon after. Open Logs, confirm the lines you expect are there, and play back any spoken line that mattered.
  4. Write anything critical into the proper record. A session is a working log on one device, not an official record — put names, addresses, and decisions into the incident or report where they belong.
caution

Sessions live on this device only. If the phone is swapped, wiped, or the app is reinstalled, the sessions and their recordings go with it. Anything you must keep has to be written into a record that is shared with your organization.

What This Screen Does Not Do

You might expectReality
A search fieldNone; find sessions by their date and time
Renaming a sessionNot possible
Deleting a session or a lineNo delete option on this screen
Sharing or exportingNone
A preview of the first lineRows show the date and time only
A line count per sessionNot shown; open the session to see its lines

How This Connects

  • Where the list comes from. Sessions are read from this device's own storage each time the screen opens, so the list is always current with what the Translate screen has saved. Nothing is fetched from your organization and nothing needs a connection.
  • What creates a session. The Translate screen creates a session the first time a translation completes and then adds every later line to it — see Translate.
  • What is inside a session. Original text, translated text, the time of each line, and audio for anything spoken. Those lines are shown in Translate Session Detail.
  • Where the audio lives. Recordings stay on the device for playback, and a copy is uploaded in the background for your organization's records. Playback depends on the file on the device, not the upload.
  • Not shared, not synced. Sessions are device-local. They do not appear for other members of your organization, and they do not follow you to a second device or survive a reinstall.
  • Date display. Row labels follow the date format in App Defaults.
  • Offline and reconnect. This screen works fully offline, because it only reads local storage. Reconnecting adds nothing to the list — new sessions come only from new translations.

Troubleshooting

If this happensWhat to do
The list is emptyNothing has been translated on this device yet. Go back and finish one translation, then reopen Logs.
A session you remember is missingIt was saved on a different device, or the app was reinstalled. Sessions are not synced.
Two sessions look almost identicalEach visit to the Translate screen can start its own session. Open them both and compare the lines.
Row dates read in an odd orderThat is your date format setting. Change it in App Defaults.
Tapping a row does nothingTap the row text and wait a moment; the detail screen loads the session's lines as it opens.
A session opens emptyNo line finished saving in that session. Use the next session down.
You want to delete a sessionThere is no delete option on this screen.
