MPL Radio List
Browse the radios and systems that use Monitor PL/DPL tone settings.
MPL is the radio's list of selectable squelch tones. When a channel is programmed so the operator picks the tone, the radio offers these positions, and this screen is where you read them. Each row is one position, numbered the way the radio orders them, with its alias and the squelch types and tone frequencies for receive, transmit, and direct operation.
Overview
Every entry in the list is one MPL position, and each row shows five labeled lines.

The labels use radio shorthand: RX is receive, TX is transmit, and Direct is direct or talkaround operation, where the radio talks unit to unit without a repeater.
Getting Here
- From the Home screen, open References.
- Select Communications.
- Choose a codeplug on the Radio Info screen.
- Tap MPL Config on the hub.
Reading the List
- Start at the position number. That is the count you turn to on the radio.
- Read the alias — this is the name the radio shows for the position, and usually the name a crew says out loud.
- Check RX Type and TX Type. These tell you whether the position uses a tone squelch, a digital code, or no tone at all.
- Read RX FREQ and Direct FREQ for the actual tone frequencies.

tip
When someone on the radio says "go to tone three", they mean a position number in this list. Read the alias beside that number to confirm you are both talking about the same tone before you transmit.
Searching MPL Positions
- Tap the menu button in the top corner.
- Tap Search. The field appears and the keyboard opens.
- Type part of the alias.
- The list filters as you type, ignoring capitals and matching anywhere in the text.
- Clear the field, or tap Cancel, to restore the full list.
- Tapping Search in the menu again closes the field and clears your text.

Search looks at the alias rather than the tone frequency, so searching a frequency such as 156.7 will not reliably find a position. Scroll the list and read the RX FREQ lines instead.
Loading, Empty, and Error States

Using the List With a Radio in Your Hand
- Match the alias. The radio shows the alias, not the position number, so find the alias in this list first.
- Read the position number. That is the count you step through on the radio to reach it.
- Check the receive line. This decides what you will hear on the channel.
- Check the transmit line. This decides whether the other end hears you.
- Check the direct line if you may drop to talkaround.

This list tells you what the positions are, not which one the radio currently has selected. Only the radio's own display can tell you that, so read the alias off the radio and match it here.
How This Connects
- Where the list comes from. MPL positions belong to the codeplug you opened on Radio Info. With a connection they are fetched for that codeplug; with no connection they are read from the downloaded copy on the device, in the same order.
- Which channels use it. A channel whose squelch is user-selectable shows User-selectable (MPL) in its Squelch block instead of a tone — that channel is pointing at this list. See Zone & Channel Details and the explanation in MPL Configuration.
- Reading one position closely. Every field an entry carries, including the values not printed on the row, is described in MPL Radio Detail.
- Position numbers are operational. The number in front of each alias is what a tone instruction over the air refers to, and it is the same count the radio steps through.
- Used with incidents. A comms plan that specifies a tone position is checked against this list before you transmit — see Incident Comms Tab.
- Offline and reconnect. The list reads fully offline for a downloaded codeplug. When the connection returns, go back to the hub and reopen MPL Config to fetch the current version.
Troubleshooting

| The list is empty | This codeplug has no MPL positions, or a search is still filtering. Tap Cancel on the search first. |
| Tapping a row does nothing | Correct — rows are read-only and there is no deeper screen. |
| Searching a tone frequency finds nothing | Search matches the alias only. Scroll and read the frequency lines. |
| A tone frequency is blank | The codeplug carries no tone for that direction in that position. |
| The positions do not match the radio | Check you opened the codeplug that matches the radio you are holding — the header on the hub shows which one. |
| "This codeplug isn't available offline." | Open this codeplug once while connected so it downloads, then it can be read offline. |
| An alert with a server message appears | The fetch failed. Check your connection and reopen the screen. |
| A channel says MPL but this list is empty | The codeplug is inconsistent or partially imported. Confirm the channel's tone with whoever programs the radios before transmitting. |
