Name a Label
Add or rename a label on a form section so it reads the way your team expects.
Some Server UI forms let you label sections or items yourself. This popup takes that label and applies it to the right part of the form. It works like naming a file, with one difference that matters: the name is tied to the specific section you opened it from, so it stays attached to the correct group even on a long, multi-section layout.

Overview
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Header | A short title set by the form, describing what you are labeling. |
| Name field | Where you type the label text. Required. |
| Save | Confirms the label and applies it to the section you opened it from. |
| Cancel | Closes the popup without applying a label. |
The popup carries two things you never see: which kind of item you are labeling, and which section of the form it belongs to. That is what keeps the label in the right place when a form has several groups of the same kind.
| What travels with the popup | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The label you type | It becomes the section's visible title. |
| The kind of item | So the form knows what is being renamed. |
| The section's position | So the label lands on the right group, not the first one. |
Getting Here
- Open a Server UI form that allows custom labels.
- Tap the add or rename control on the section you want to label.
- The popup appears with the cursor in the Name field.
- The keyboard opens automatically, and the card lifts clear of it so you can see what you are typing.
Naming the Label
- Type the label text in the Name field.
- Tap Save. If the field is blank the app answers "Enter name" and the popup stays open.
- The label is applied to that section of the form, keeping its place in the layout. Nothing else on the form moves.
- To back out, tap Cancel. No label is applied and the popup closes.
| If you tap | Result |
|---|---|
| Save with text | That section takes the new label. |
| Save with an empty field | "Enter name" appears; nothing is applied. |
| Cancel | The section keeps whatever label it had, including none. |
The label is applied to the specific section you opened the popup from. Open it from a different section and you rename that one instead, which is why it is worth confirming you tapped the right control before saving.
Keep labels short and consistent with the terms your agency already uses. "Engine 12 crew" reads clearly to the next person; "misc 2" does not. Anyone reviewing the form later sees your label, not a system name.
Save the form itself afterwards. This popup applies the label on your device; the form's own save control is what sends it to your agency's records.
How This Connects
- Where the label comes from. From you. Your agency's layout decides which sections accept a custom label; the text is yours.
- Where it goes when saved. Into that section of the form on your device, and on to your agency's records when you save the form. It then appears for anyone who opens the same record. See Data and Sync.
- Which other parts of the app use it. Your labels are what you see in the section list on Edit & Collapse Sections, they name the group on a shared copy of the form (see Share a Form), and they carry through to exported paperwork from the PDF Generator. Labels on forms tied to a call show with that call in the Incidents List.
- Offline and reconnect. Labeling is local and works with no coverage. The label reaches your agency's records when the form saves, so save it once you are back in signal. See Offline Mode.
Troubleshooting
| If this happens | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Enter name" appears | The field is required. Type the label and tap Save. |
| The wrong section got renamed | Open the rename control on the correct section and label it, then fix the one you changed by mistake. |
| The label did not appear | You probably tapped Cancel. Reopen the control and save the name. |
| The label is missing after reopening the form | The form was not saved. Apply the label again and use the form's save control. |
| The label is cut off | Shorten it. Long labels are squeezed by the section header's width. |
| No rename control on the section | Your agency did not make that section renameable. Ask your administrator if it should be. |
