Name a Saved Map

Give your saved map a name and decide whether it is shared or available offline.

When you create a saved map — or edit an existing one — this card collects the map's name, an optional description, and two switches: whether the map is shared with your team, and whether it is kept available without a connection. The name is the only thing you have to fill in.

Name a saved map

Overview​

The two switches are buttons that light up when selected rather than sliding toggles. A lit switch is on.

Getting Here​

To create a map:

  1. Open the Map or Reference Map and open the map's menu.
  2. Tap Saved Maps (or Add To Map), then tap Create New / CREATE NEW MAP.
  3. The card opens titled Add Map with the keyboard already on the Name field.

To edit a map:

  1. Open the saved map you want to change.
  2. Open the map's menu and tap Map Details.
  3. The card opens titled Edit Map, pre-filled with the map's current name, description and switch settings.

Name and Save a Map​

  1. The keyboard is already on the Name field. Type a name you will recognise later — an incident name, an address, or a date and area work well.
  2. Tap into Description and add any context you want. This is optional and can be several lines.
  3. Tap Sharable if your team needs to see this map.
  4. Tap Offline if you want the map kept available without a connection.
  5. Tap Save. The card closes and the map is created (or updated).
caution

The name is required. If you tap Save with it blank you will see Enter Map Name and nothing is saved. Tap OK, type a name, and save again.

tip

Name maps so they sort sensibly in the list — for example "2026-04-03 Canyon Rd structure" rather than "map 2". The Saved Maps list shows names only, so the name is all you have to go on.

What the Switches Do​

Offline covers the map and its objects. It does not download the base map tiles underneath. For those, use Downloaded Maps on the map menu to outline and store an area — see Reference Map.

Change Your Mind Later​

Both switches and both text fields can be changed at any time from Map Details on the open map's menu. Turning Sharable on later publishes an existing map to your team; turning it off again removes it from their view.

How This Connects​

  • The name you type here is the row you will tap in Saved Maps, and the map it creates is where markers and shapes are stored.
  • A new map is written to the device straight away and synced to the server when a connection is available. That means you can create a map in a dead spot and it will publish later — so a teammate may not see a Sharable map the instant you make it.
  • Sharable is what makes a map a shared team picture rather than personal notes. A shared map's objects are listed in Map Shapes & Objects and can be brought into an incident's Maps tab.
  • The base map style and layers the map draws with are not stored per map — they are your account's defaults, shared with Map, Reference Map and Map Style Options.
  • The same naming card is reused, with a different heading, when a tracking session or a map needs renaming — see Start a Tracking Session.

Troubleshooting​

If this happensWhat to do

The keyboard is covering the cardThe card lifts itself above the keyboard automatically. If it still feels cramped, rotate the device or tap outside a field to put the keyboard away.
Your map is not in the list afterwardsReopen Saved Maps to refresh the list. If it is still missing, check you tapped Save rather than Back.
A teammate cannot see the mapConfirm Sharable is on in Map Details, and that your device has been on a connection since you created it.
The map will not open without signalOffline has to be on before you lose the connection. Turn it on from Map Details while you still have a signal.
The description is not showing anywhereThe Saved Maps list shows names only. The description is kept with the map and visible from Map Details.
