Rename a Chat
Give a conversation a clear name and accent color so it is easy to find.
The rename popup lets you change a conversation's name and pick its accent color. It opens from the long-press menu on the Messages list and from a group's details. The same popup is reused elsewhere in the app to name a location, and in that case the color row is hidden.

Getting Here
- From the Messages list, press and hold a conversation and choose Edit.
- Or, from a group's details, tap the three-dot button.
- The popup appears over the screen with the keyboard already up and the current name filled in.
On the Messages list, Edit is only offered for conversations with more than two members. A one-on-one chat gets Color instead, which opens the color picker directly without the name field.
Rename the Chat
- The name field already has focus and holds the current name.
- Replace it with the name you want. There is no length limit, but short names read best in the list.
- Tap the save button.

Change the Color
- Tap the color swatch or the color button. The keyboard closes.
- Pick a color in the color picker.
- The swatch fills with your choice and the label updates to its hex value.
- Tap the save button to apply the name and color together.
A distinct color makes a busy conversation list easier to scan at a glance. Reserve one strong color for the thread you need to spot instantly.
The color you pick is not applied until you save. Closing the popup with the back button discards both the name and the color change.
Layout Notes
The popup resizes itself for the device and orientation, and it lifts clear of the keyboard so the name field is never hidden behind it. On a tablet, and on a phone held sideways, it takes about half the screen width; on a phone held upright it takes nearly the full width.
How This Connects
- What this edits. The popup changes two values on the conversation record: its name and its accent color. Nothing else about the conversation is touched — members, history, and notification settings all stay as they were.
- What updates it. The saved name and color are written to your device immediately and sent to the server in the background, so the new values appear at once locally and reach your other devices and the rest of the group once they sync.
- Shared with other screens. The name and color you set here drive the row on the Messages List, the header in Chat View, and the badge and title in Group Chat Details. Renaming in any of those places uses this same popup or its equivalent, so there is only ever one name to keep track of.
- Chats and incidents. Renaming a conversation that belongs to an incident changes only how the thread is labelled for your agency. It does not rename the incident, and the incident still controls whether the thread stays open.
- Offline behavior. Renaming works offline. The change is stored on your device and queued, then sent automatically when the connection returns.
Troubleshooting
