Rename an Incident
Give an incident a clear, recognizable name with this quick naming popup.
This small popup is used to name or rename an incident, and the same dialog is reused for other items that need a short name. It has one text field and two buttons. The keyboard opens by itself so you can type straight away, and the card slides up the screen while the keyboard is showing so the field and buttons stay in view.

The field takes focus the moment the popup appears, so no extra tap is needed before typing. The card also resizes itself for phone or tablet and for portrait or landscape, which is why it looks wider on an iPad and on a phone held sideways.
Getting Here
- Open the incident you want to rename, or start creating a new one.
- Tap the action that sets or edits the name. On an existing incident this is usually reached from the incident side menu or the Info tab.
- The naming popup appears with the keyboard ready.
The same popup is used in several places for naming things other than incidents. The Header text tells you what you are naming, so read it before you save, especially if you opened the popup from a menu.
Name or Rename the Incident
- Tap the Name field if it is not already active, and type the name.
- Choose something you will recognize in a list weeks later: a street, a landmark, or an incident type plus a location, such as
Structure Fire - 412 Oak St. - Tap Save. The keyboard closes, the name is applied, and the popup dismisses.
Agree a naming convention across the agency and stick to it. Names are what you scan on the incidents list long after the incident is closed, so a consistent pattern such as Type - Address makes an incident far easier to find than a name typed in a hurry.
Cancel Without Saving
- Tap Cancel to dismiss the popup.
- Nothing is applied. An existing name is left exactly as it was, and text you had typed is discarded.

The name cannot be empty. A blank field produces the Enter name message and the popup stays open until you type something. A name made only of spaces is accepted, so type a real name rather than a space to get past the check.

How This Connects
The name you type here is written onto the incident record itself, so it shows everywhere the incident is referred to.
- The name appears on the incidents list, on the Info tab, in the incident side menu, and at the top of the Command view.
- Renaming does not change anything else about the incident. Units, tasks, notes, timers, and attachments are untouched, and any history already recorded on the incident timeline keeps its entries.
- Because the name is part of the incident record, a change made on your device is shared with everyone on that incident once it syncs.
- The same dialog is reused elsewhere for naming other items, in which case the name is saved onto that item rather than the incident.
Offline, the new name is held on your device and goes out when the connection returns. Until then other responders still see the old name, so if you rename an incident mid-response, say so on the radio rather than assuming everyone sees the change.
Troubleshooting
